Published borehole pricing in South Africa varies enormously - different 2026 guides quote per-metre drilling rates for the same province that differ by a factor of three - because depth, geology, access, specification, distance and fuel costs all move the number. Depth in particular is not known until the hole is finished. Figures generally exclude VAT unless noted, and change over time. Only an itemised written quote against your actual site means anything.

Is a wellpoint enough for a Strand garden?

On the sandy ground close to the coast it often is, and for straightforward garden irrigation it is a fraction of the cost of a drilled hole.

The limits are drawdown in a dry summer and the fact that it draws the shallowest and most exposed water on the property. For anything beyond irrigation a proper borehole is the right call.

How salty is Strand borehole water?

It varies with distance from the sea and with how hard the hole is pumped. Closer to the beachfront the risk is real; further inland toward the Helderberg it drops off.

The analysis is the only thing that answers it for your property, and it should happen before the irrigation system is designed around the water.

Why do Strand borehole quotes vary so much?
